Based in San Diego, California, RSI Security was founded in 2007 and incorporated in 2013. The company is known for its ability to develop innovative responses to new threats. It has established a wide range of platforms and programs designed to help companies and governments protect their information and comply with applicable regulations.
RSI Security’s MSSP program is among the best in the country. However, the history of the firm and its role as a managed security service provider cannot be understood without reviewing the larger history of the cybersecurity threat.
RSI: Growing with History
The first serious computer viruses appeared in the 1990s. The infamous Melissa and ILOVEYou viruses affected tens of millions of personal computers, corrupting and destroying email servers around the world. These viruses led to the first anti-virus technology, designed to detect viruses and prevent them from being executed. This was the moment that governments, corporations, and the public became aware of cybersecurity. It was the moment that businesses especially began to invest in software to protect their IT systems.
The next big scare came in the late 2000s. Between 2005 and 2007 a cybercriminal named Albert Gonzalez managed to steal 45.7 million payment cards from U.S. retailer TJ Maxx. In the end, it cost the company $256 million. Then came the Target breach of 2013. This attack was even more sophisticated than the one launched against TJ Maxx. The cybercriminals in the latter assault took an indirect route to Target’s customer credit card information. They used the company’s heating and ventilation supplier to enter its point-of-sale system. From there, they were able to grab credit card numbers at the precise moment they were present in the memory of the computer system and not encrypted.
These breaches sent shockwaves through the corporate world. Companies realized that the uploading of one-off anti-virus software was not enough; that cybercriminals were advanced and sophisticated enough to get around such defenses. This is when the concept of managed security systems providers was born. RSI Security was one of the pioneers in the industry and developed an MSSP program in San Diego that is second to none.
Meeting the Threat Head-On
RSI Security has been in operation for 12 years. It has helped lead the renaissance in cybersecurity risk assessment. It has done this through a combination of innovation, flexibility, and client collaboration. However, the most important key to the company’s success is its understanding of history. The major cyberattacks described above owed mostly to lack of vigilance. The victims of these incidents put too much confidence in unmonitored and unmanaged software systems. RSI Security was part of a wave of firms that helped change the way companies think about cybersecurity risk. They helped develop the concept of hands-on managed IT security.
In response to the threats created by ever-more-sophisticated cybercriminals, RSI Security developed 11 key services to help companies and governments keep their information safe. Here are 4 of them:
1. Managed firewall
Designing a robust firewall that includes strict access control and data leakage audits
2. 24-hour security operation and monitoring Service
Keeping people on duty 24 hours a day to monitor organizational IT assets. This allows for a rapid report on attacks in progress and the resources at risk.
3. Managed vulnerability assessment
Identifying, analyzing, and prioritizing vulnerabilities in a company’s IT infrastructure and ensuring that the most vulnerable points exceed risk tolerance standards.
4. Managed compliance policy services
Working with companies to ensure that they have a legal, sustainable, and effective risk compliance program.
