Our interview below is with Routific Co-Founders, Suzanne Ma and Marc Kuo:
Q: For those who have never heard of it, how would you describe Routific?
A: One of our clients recently called Routific “the hottest real-world problem solving API on the block.” We would agree, but here’s a little more about our startup for those who have never heard of us: Routific optimizes routes and saves you time. Q: How long did it take to put together Routific and what was the most challenging part?
A: Routific began many years ago when Marc was writing his Master’s thesis on the vehicle routing problem. After graduation, he went on to work at an investment bank in Hong Kong. It was a glamorous life, but Marc was unfulfilled.
“At the bank, I felt there was something inherently wrong when I was using algorithms to help large multi-national companies inflate their already bloated portfolios,” Kuo said. “I wanted my work to create value and bring about positive change in the world; Routific is all about cutting waste and helping the world turn a little more efficiently.”
Marc moved to Vancouver in 2012 and began translating his thesis for application in the real world. He won first place at Vancouver’s Startup Weekend and also won the 2013 Novex Challenge for environmentally, socially and economically sustainable businesses. The platform was soft-launched in May of this year. So, all in all, we’ve been working on Routific for nearly two years now.
Over the years, we’ve learned that a solid personal relationship can translate into a stable and powerful professional alliance. (Co-founders Marc Kuo and Suzanne Ma are married. :) )
Q: What is your main goal at the moment?
A: Our main goal is to find startups and SMEs that can benefit from route optimization. Since our API is production-ready, we’re especially excited to partner with startups and platform providers who can integrate our Routing Engine into their existing systems.
Q: What we can expect from Routific in the future?
A: Our proprietary algorithm yields on average 20% shorter routes, so it’s our hope thousands of delivery companies around the world will use Routific and that could translate into lower emissions and a cleaner, greener planet for all.
