Swytch is a revolutionary new app that lets you use multiple phone numbers on your existing phone. This feature can be useful in situations where you temporarily need an additional phone, or if you want to have separate private and business phone numbers on the same phone and opens up the possibility of cheap international calling. Chris Michael, Founder and CEO of new startup Swytch, shares more details with us in the interview below:

Q: Chris, how would you describe Swytch?

A: Swytch provides users with additional mobile numbers on their existing phone. Users don’t need to change their phone, SIM card or network operator. It works on any network, anywhere in the world.

Q: How does it work?

A: All calls and text messages received by any of our numbers terminate to our “Cloud Mobile Network”, and then we deliver the call or message directly into the app on the user’s phone. When they make outgoing calls/texts the app connects to our platform and then we terminate it to the recipient as a normal call or SMS.

Q: Who do you see as your primary target audience?

A: We’ve identified three main user cases. People that want to separate out personal and business communications without having to carry around multiple devices; people that want a temporary number for additional privacy or security (eg. when you post to marketplace sites like eBay or Craigslist, or when using dating sites like match.com); and finally ex-pats or companies based abroad.

Q: What is your main goal at the moment and when do you plan to launch Swytch?

A: Our main goal is to ship a product that we’re proud of to our users, we’re extremely user-centric. Alpha testing went really well; we’ve shown an early beta version at TechCrunch Disrupt Europe which got a great response, and we hope to release it to our beta userbase mid-November. Full launch by January 2015.
